Tips for effective multimedia marketing

All of these sites can be part of multimedia marketing

One of the first tips internet marketers should pay attention to is that most users only skim internet content, so writing should be concise and to the point.  Their multimedia should not be irritating, meaning annoying pop-ups should be avoided.  User interactivity should be used, as it encourages positive responses to the site.  Internet marketers should avoid bogging down the site with items that would slow the loading times.  When adding different multimedia elements, it’s better to go with a subtle approach.  Lastly, the customer’s wants and needs should come before the product or service that is being advertised.

What to avoid in multimedia marketing

Pop ups are not your friend!

Internet marketer is to avoid using pop-ups as a marketing technique.  Most internet users find these annoying, and most browsers block them.  An internet marketer should also avoid loading sites with items that would slow down the loading time of the site.  Users are put off by slow-loading sites, and many will navigate away if they encounter a site that takes too long to load.  Sites shouldn’t be overloaded with information, as it comes across as amateurish.  Flashy ads should be used only on other sites, not the home site of marketing campaign.  The site should be built in a way that allows visitors to control any sound or video playing on the site.

Sites like these can all be used in multimedia marketing

A music label could benefit greatly from having effective multimedia on its site.  The site could have an embedded music player on the homepage that plays the music of the bands on the label.  This should have a volume control for users who do not want to hear music.  There could also be either an embedded video player or a pop-up video player that allows users to see music videos, concert videos, and behind the scenes videos of bands on the label.  These videos could link to pages for each band within the label site or to the individual sites of the bands.

Youtube can be great for marketing music

I would use videos that had user-controlled volume to promote products or services on the internet.  The video could first be places on the site of the product or service company, as well as any affiliate companies.  It could then be uploaded on Youtube and tagged with effective keywords to try and get the most hits.  This video could be linked to through Twitter and Facebook profiles, as well as embedded in Facebook pages pertaining to the particular product or service.  The video could then be embedded in the adspace of other sites.  These embedded videos would initially be silent, and would have an option to turn on the sound, as well as links that lead users to the appropriate front end site.

Five Tips for Effective Multimedia Writing

May 14th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

Designing an interface which allows the potential customer to explore different features of a service and understand how it works can be a very effective marketing tool.

Tips for Effective Multimedia Writing, #1: Visibility – Be sure to place your ad on the page where it can be easily stumbled upon by the site visitor, and make sure that it is large and clear enough so that the visitor can easily see what the ad intends.

Tips for Effective Multimedia Writing, #2: Get to the Point – Most surfers do not read the text on a page so much as they scan when they first arrive for items that appeal to their interest.  The ad must use as few words as necessary to send its message in a clear and succinct manner to quickly hook the potential client’s interest.

Tips for Effective Multimedia Writing, #3: Don’t Force Feed – Using aggressive approaches such as pop-up ads can not only give a negative impression by annoying the consumer, but can drive them away from the site if the ad interferes with their ability to browse the site with ease.

Tips for Effective Multimedia Writing, #4: Subtle Enticement – Throwing your entire sales pitch arsenal at the customer off the bat will most likely serve to annoy rather than hook the user.  It is more advantageous to use an ad which is subtly enticing on the surface and uses interactive features to allow the user to have more input in terms of what they will get out of the ad.  This will serve to engage the customer and can be used to address the question of why they should care about the services your company offers.

Tips for Effective Multimedia Writing, #5: The Technical Context – No promotion can be effective if the multimedia of the ads interferes with the overall function of the site.  If the ad creates long load times for the entire page or navigates slowly or awkwardly, most users will not hang around for very long.  The ad must work within a technical context that allows the main site to operate as smoothly as it normally would, and any interactive features must be able to function with likewise efficiency.

Approaches to Avoid in Multimedia Advertising

May 13th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

Pop-up ads are a classic approach to avoid in web advertising. They have become notorious for their annoyance factor, and most current browsers now block them.

In designing a multimedia advertisement to visibly stand out on a web page, it is crucial that an internet marketer know which approaches add to the appeal of their promotion and which to avoid that would serve to annoy or drive away site visitors.  A classic approach to avoid would be the pop-up ad.  Pop-up ads have become so notorious for annoying users and interfering with browsing that many web browsers are now designed to block them out.  Another potentially annoying approach when dealing with multimedia advertising would be an ad which blasts its audio loudly every time the page loads, and even moreso when the ad appears on every page of the site.  While this kind of approach may be a good way for visitors to notice the presence of the ad, the fact that it serves to annoys the visitor at first impression has a highly counterproductive effect when it comes to appeal.  In a similar fashion, those aggressive approaches in which the advertiser throws everything in their arsenal in the user’s face and do not make an impression other than annoying or superficial do not help to pique the curiosity of potential clients in most cases.

Benefits of Interactive Multimedia Advertising

Some potential customers of MLB.TV might want to know that the Premium service offers the ability to watch multiple simultaneous games in high definition for $5 per month more than the basic service.

Let’s say we are put in charge of designing an interactive multimedia web promotion for MLB.TV (a paid subscription service which allows users access to Major League Baseball telecasts across the country).  What are some things that a potential customer would want to know?  Some new users may simply want to get a basic idea of the how the rates work and the benefit they will get out of the service.  Some may be interested in the advantages of buying a season-long subscription over a month-to-month plan.  There may be others still who would be interested to learn about the benefits of subscribing to MLB.TV Premium versus the regular MLB.TV service to find out if the extra features are among those for which they may find it worth their while to pay a little extra.  In this case, it would be advantageous to possibly feature a short video clip where it can be seen on the page, which would be followed by an interactive menu that, depending on which option the user selects, would lead each of these potential customers to the page where they can find the specific information that they want to know before making their decision to sign up for the service.

Effective Multimedia Video Marketing

For some products, such as video games or movies, a small trailer clip may be enough to draw the curiosity of a potential customer.

Video is fast becoming a commonly used tool for effective multimedia marketing on the internet.  An example of an effective video advertisement would be one placed on a highly visible part of a web page, which would queue up its visual content on its own when the user lands on the page, but would require user input to activate audio or lead them to a selected part of the ad to learn more about what they might specifically want to know about the product.  The visual content should be used to draw the attention of the visitor, but it should be recommended that any audio remain silent until user activation.  The reason for this is: if the audio starts blaring every time the user clicks the page and requires user input to shut it off, it will more likely have the effect of annoying the user in the way a pop-up ad would rather than drawing in the user.

What To Avoid When Using Multimedia

Multimedia

Things to avoid when using multimedia:

.  Do not use pop-ups, they annoy people and will be distracting. It is a form of being pushy for the visitor, forcing them into a place they did not choose of their own free will.

.  Do not use files that are slow in loading or you will lose your clients attention, they might think the site is down and escape it. People have short attention spans and little time to browse.

.  Don’t fill the page with too much motion as it could become confusing and looks unprofessional, simple animation or just one piece moving at a time is all you need to capture someone’s attention.

.  Do not appear arrogant or clever, think about your audience not what is cool to your eye, this is an area where programmers sometimes feel they are being clever and as a marketing voice you have to make the final cut.

Multimedia

Competition is fierce and by utilizing multimedia effectively your clothing line would stand out from the rest. Using interactive links to guide the user through the shopping experience would make them feel like they “own” the item they are viewing.

Advertising on other people’s sites with a video link to your site would be very impressive and show that you have something different in your presentation, not just a static advertisement as was used previously in ads.

Make sure that the user can interact with the presentation is important, it will draw them into the site and they will find it and your product interesting. If the user is clicking within the site they won’t be clicking to leave it.
