Useful marketing features on Facebook

Facebook has useful features for marketing

The newsfeed feature on Facebook allows people to see the activities of their friends collected in one place.  These activities include status updates, posted or tagged pictures, joining groups and fanpages, and application activity.  A software company could use the newsfeed to post things like news articles about the company, a count down to a product release, or important things happening within the company.  Photo albums in Facebook are where people can upload an unlimited amount of photos from their collection.  The software company could use photo albums to show people pictures of their products, screenshots of the products while running, or new developments in software.

Advantages of Facebook Marketing for a Charity Organization

May 17th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

The St. Bernard Project in St. Bernard Parish Louisiana is one charity organization which uses Facebook to keep in touch with its volunteer base.

For a charity organization dedicated to serving a particular cause or community, using a social media network such as Facebook marketing can be highly advantageous because it allows the organization to utilize its base of volunteers and supporters who are most passionate about the cause to promote awareness of who the organization is and what they do.  An excellent example of this would be the St. Bernard Project in Southeastern Louisiana, an organization dedicated to cleaning up and restoring homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana.  The St. Bernard Project connects with its regular base of volunteers and supporters through its Facebook page, providing its base with updates on projects and campaigns of which friends of members of that base can become aware when one takes any action in the cause which is shown on that person’s News Feed page.

Facebook Marketing Mistakes

Facebook Marketing Mistakes

Facebook marketing no doubt has taken the world by storm. But as is the case with every other thing, mistakes are bound to happen while attempting something new. Go through the list given below to know some of the most common mistakes committed by Facebook Marketers.

  • Putting all Eggs in One Basket

If you have Facebook account, should you also have a Twitter account, a blog or a micro-website? If your answer is no, you are committing a mistake here. This is like putting all your eggs in one basket. Having multiple social media marketing platforms is always a good idea.

  • No Separate Profiles

Never mix social and business profiles together. People usually get turned off by a business profile on Facebook. Always maintain a personal and a professional profile simultaneously. Once people are into your personal profile, you can easily pull them towards your business profile.

  • No Integration

Integrating various social media marketing platforms is of utmost importance. It is always a good strategy to allow people using different social media platforms to cross reference you on various sites. Facebook is just one platform and you need to integrate others like Twitter, YouTube, and Blogs for effective social media marketing.

  • Static Information

Merely creating a profile and letting it go at that point is foolish. If new content is not added consistently, fans or followers are bound to think that you have abandoned the project. Thus adding new content regularly is important.

  • Being too Pushy

You need to realize that social media platforms will not work for you if you are just pushing the sales pitches towards the user. Rather you should make efforts in attracting them.

Effective Facebook Marketing Tips

Facebook Marketing Tips

There can be bad and ineffective advertising and then there can be good and effective advertising. Advertising on Facebook is no different, and if you don’t want to do it in a former way, follow the tips for Facebook marketing given below –

  • Stop Being a Salesman

Advertising on Facebook is not possible without creating a profile. If you want to reach out to a wide audience, at no cost make you profile look like a salesman trying to sell you something or the other.

  • Do not be Pushy

People visit websites like Facebook to socialize, and if you try to pitch for your product or service to them, they will straightway ignore you. A more subtle way would to be tell them about benefits of a product or service through wall pasts, videos and links.

  • Create Business Groups

Instead of randomly targeting people, try to filter people who would be interested in your product or service. Set up a business group and ask prospective members to refer you to people on their network.

  • Join and Help Others

There might other people who like you are trying to promote a business. Networking with them will prove to be fruitful in long run.

  • Be Persistent

Your efforts will bear fruits only if you are consistent in them. Do not expect overnight results. Hence, be persistent.

Benefits of Using Social Media

March 19th, 2010 § 0 comments § permalink

Facebook

Say my company sells a new type of yogurt drink and the best way to sell it is to taste it. Getting the message out over a Social Network like Facebook would reach many people and it could incorporate a link to my website for a coupon to try the product for free.

There is no cost to advertise so the money that is spent on giving away free product, for a limited time, would balance out or even cost less.

People love to recommend things to their friends and family so when the reviews start coming in the word is out on the product and its popularity spreads like wildfire.

Using the power of socialization word of mouth marketing reaches people you don’t even know which gives more exposure about a product that otherwise might have been a small niche product.

Setting up a Facebook Business Page

October 15th, 2009 § 0 comments § permalink

Facebook is a great tool for connecting with customers and building your brand image. Its free and very easy to get started with a Facebook business page. Here are the basic steps to get you going:

1. Go to: http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

2. Decide what the best category is for your business.

3. Enter your business/product/brand name and click “Create Page”.

4. At a minimum, you should enter a short description of your company and your website address. This is in the “Add Information To This Page” area. I’d also suggest uploading your logo as the profile picture.

5. Once you have entered in at least some information and a picture, click on your business name in the top left corner and then click “publish this page” to make it live and visible to others.

6. Then, from your new profile page, click “Add to my products”. This way, you become the first “fan” of your company .

Once you have set all this up, the fun part begins. Since you’ve become a “fan” of your business, your friends on Facebook (some of which are likely customers) will see a message in their home page. Something like “Patrick Bedford is a fan of Collective Clicks” will come up on their news feed. This will probably encourage some of your Facebook friends to befriend your business. Then, their friends will see a message, and so on and so on.

If you want to see a sample Facebook business page, you can check out Collective Clicks.  You can even add Collective Clicks as a friend (once you visit the page, click on the “Add Product” link in the right column) to see what a page looks like from the customers stand point.

Using Social Media to boost your Online Presence

September 16th, 2009 § 0 comments § permalink

Social network marketing is a relatively new field that is becoming more main stream as an increasing number of companies recognize its value. Social media sites allow companies to interact directly with their potential clients and to develop long term relationships. There are many large social networking sites out there and new ones are launched every day. Some of the main social media applications that all companies should consider using are Twitter, Facebook, Digg, YouTube, and some sort of blog.

Twitter allows businesses to directly send and receive short messages between any twitter user in the world. “Tweets” sent out by a company are indexed by search engines and can be seen by anyone searching for a particular item or service. Also, companies can use Twitter to send out real time updates regarding promotions, inventory shipments, new products and much more. There is no cost to use Twitter and the direct feedback that users around the world provide can be priceless to many businesses.

Similarly, Facebook can be used to directly interact with existing and potential customers and could also be used to showcase products, get reviews, and create buzz about a new product launch. Facebook also offers a convenient and effective ad platform that allows for highly targeted delivery.

Digg is a social media site that helps people discover and share content from anywhere on the web, by submitting links/stories, and then voting and commenting on submitted links/stories. It can be a great source of new traffic to your site if your submission is popular among Digg users.

A blog, as well as a YouTube channel, can be very beneficial when trying to create excitement for a new product or service and also to simply bring in more traffic to your site. As long as you create quality content that people want to read or see, they will keep coming back to you page and will surely check out your main site as well (make sure that you post your URL wherever possible).

These are only a few of the many social media avenues out there but represent a massive following. Start with these and then branch out into other, more niche, networks.
